Every Mother Counts has been using running events as fundraising and awareness raising opportunities.  These races are great metaphors for the obstacles, including travel distance, many women have to overcome during pregnancy and labor to reach basic and lifesaving care.  In 2017, inspired by EMC's running events, a few Greenwich Y members and friends, celebrated Mother's Day by swimming a 12-hour relay and fundraising for EMC.  Tribeach (USMS) swim team decided to make it an annual event to provide more swimmers the opportunity to swim with a purpose and dedicate their laps to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, everywhere.  Please joint the swim every year for Mothers’s Day weekend!

Saturday before Mother's Day the 12-hour event starts at 6:30 am at Greenwich YMCA. The swimming event is a fun, team-oriented fundraiser, but it is also an opportunity for competitive swimmers to test their endurance and strive for the fastest marathon distance - 26.2 mile - swim (1,844 laps) or farthest distance within12-hours.

In advance of the swimming event, a presentation about the charity Every Mother Counts organization and their mission is organized at  Greenwich YWCA .  The event includes a video screening, Q and A session and light refreshments are provided.

The $25 participation fee will be donated to EMC and each swimmer or team will be provided the opportunity to fundraise on Crowdrise.

Swimmers of all ages and abilities can participate.  Swimmers can swim any stroke without the aid of floating devices or paddles .

A team can have up to 12 swimmers.  Each team should have (only) one swimmer in their designated lane at all times.
